This project was for the band Come & Rest from Atlanta, GA. The song for the video is entitled "Slowburn" The band wanted to convey the slow process of a break-up and how couples let it drag on painfully. I wanted to help portray that through the overall imagery of the video. I choose to use a black figure that represents that person or relationship that didn't turn out so well. Several shots were the black figure creeping around in soft lit places. I really wanted to showcase natural light and showing details of the figure and a mirror. The mirror was a prop piece to show how in a relationship you can unintentionally expect your significant other to agree with everything you say and in a sense mirror your personality. I thoroughly enjoyed playing around with the black figure and weird imagery.
Unlike all my previous video projects this one was with all natural lighting and I thought I'd try my luck in translating that to a video. All performance shots were on a tripod and dolly slider and b-roll was handheld. The entire video was shot on the Canon 5D MK III and using two lenses which were the Canon 50mm 1.4 and Rokinon 85mm t1.5. 99% of the time I was shooting at the lowest aperture that the lens could go. For the full band parts I was around 2.8. I don't recall my ISO or Shutter speed specifically. My shutter speed was fast enough to get the right amount of light and allow me to slow down any footage that was shot at 60fps instead of 24fps. For the singing parts in slow motion I sped up the song and had the vocalist sing to that and slowed down the footage in post to match it up with the tempo of the actual track. The video is a mixture of performance shots of the band, macro shots, and some geometric shapes. The video was edited in Final Cut X. If you have any questions please feel free to ask away. Thanks!
